FAQ

I want to turn my vinyl records or my cassettes into CDs or mp3 files.  How does it work?

Post your records or cassettes to me or deliver them with your payment. I will post back the converted music together with your originals or you can collect them.

What services are provided?

Conversion of vinyls, shellac 78 rpm records and audio cassettes to audio CD or mp3 files.

Where do I send my records or cassettes to?

Audio Transfers, Barry Mitchell, 19 First Cross Road, Twickenham, Middlesex, TW2 5QA.

What are the payment terms?

Please send the payment with your order.  I accept cheques and postal orders. You can also pay with Paypal.

How much does it cost?

There are different options available, but as a rough guide around £8.00 per LP or £4.00 per 30 minutes of audio cassette. See the price list for full details.

How long does it take?

You will receive the CDs or mp3 files within 10 working days, though large orders may take longer.

What formats can I receive?

Audio CD or mp3 files.

When I receive the CDs will I be able to skip between tracks like with a commercial CD?

Yes, if you select this option you can order CDs that function exactly like commercial CDs.

Can I listen to examples of transfers?

Examples are available on a free demo CD. Contact me for a copy.

What am I legally entitled to copy?

Where you are not the copyright owner you are entitled to make one copy of a record or cassette for your own use if there is no equivalent commercial CD release.

Can noise and scratches be removed from my records or tapes?

This is possible but it is not a service I generally offer.  I might remove a few prominent scratches if this is necessary but I usually make a straightforward transfer of the original with as little interference as possible.

What if some tracks on my LP are damaged?

Damaged tracks can be left out of the final CD.

Can I order compilations?

Yes, send the details with your order.

Can mono tracks be turned into stereo?

Yes.  Let me know if you want mono albums kept in mono.

What if my record is in very poor condition?

If your record is in really poor condition I recommend sending it to someone who specialises in restoring old records.  My main interest is in transferring the audio with as little interference as possible.

What if my record or cassette is damaged while being copied?

There is very little chance of a record being damaged while being copied.  However, old audio cassettes are quite fragile so I would strongly recommend that you make a back up copy before posting.

Will dust and dirt be removed from my records?

I  will manually clean records before copying them.  Records will be kept free of dust while being copied.

I don't have a turntable.  Can I check the condition of my records before I post them?

I recommend taking a look at the records and not posting any that are obviously damaged.  However, sometimes records that look badly scratched will play without skipping or jumping.

What if I am not happy with the copies I receive?

If there are any problems with the copies I will make every effort to sort the problem out.  This is why I recommend I hold on to the originals until you have listened to the copies and have decided that you are happy with them.  If ultimately you are not happy with the order I will give a refund of the cost of the order but not p&p.

Is postage and packing included in the price?

Not in the cost of making the transfer.  There are separate charges for p&p.

Can I deliver the records in person?

Yes - get in touch to arrange a time.

What if I live outside the UK?

I am happy to receive orders from outside the UK but bear in mind that posting records to the UK will be expensive.  If you do order from outside the UK it is best to pay with Paypal.  Contact me to discuss a price.

What if I don't want the records back?

I will dispose of them, probably by donating them to charity.

How do I place an order?

Email me at info@barrymitchellmusic.com or ring 020 87554499.

Can I discuss my order before I place it?

Yes.  Email me any questions at info@barrymitchellmusic.com     I am also happy to discuss your order on the phone.

Can I get a reduction on a bulk order?

I am happy to discuss the price of  bulk orders.  Contact me at info@barrymitchellmusic.com

How should I pack my records?

Records will be safe as long as they are packed in a way that does not allow them to bend.  Use cardboard as a stiffener and pack them tightly, then wrap bubblewrap around them.

Do I need insurance when posting my records?

Most posting options include a level of insurance, so extra insurance should not be necessary.
